Diane Alarcon: Serving from every front
LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – For Diane Alarcon, service isn’t just a chapter in her life. It’s the thread that ties her story together. As a Program Analyst at StraCon, Alarcon brings a lifetime of military connection and experience to her work.
Her journey began in a home where service was a family tradition. With a father in the U.S. Air Force and a brother in the Marine Corps, she grew up immersed in the values of duty and sacrifice. She carried that legacy forward by serving in the U.S. Navy, where she gained firsthand insight into the demands of military life. After leaving the Navy, she continued her connection to the military as a dedicated military spouse and advocate.
It was during her time stationed in Virginia Beach that she met her husband, who continues to serve on active duty. Together, they have built a life shaped by the unique challenges and rewards of military service.
Alarcon’s dual roles as a veteran and military spouse have given her a rare perspective on the meaning of service and sacrifice. Her own time in uniform taught her the “mission first” mindset, while her husband’s deployments, starting when their first child was just 3 months old, taught her resilience, independence and adaptability.
“Military life often requires you to think on your feet and solve problems on your own,” she said.
These experiences have forged her into someone who thrives under pressure and remains steady in the face of uncertainty.
The challenges of military life are undeniable: balancing family responsibilities during long deployments, managing unpredictable schedules and maintaining stability for her children.
Yet Alarcon also sees beauty in this life.
“There’s a deep pride in supporting something bigger than yourself,” she said.
The friendships she has built within the military community and the strength she has discovered in herself are rewards that have made the sacrifices worthwhile.
Her personal connection to the military isn’t just a backdrop to her work at StraCon. It is the driving force behind it.
“Being both a veteran and an active-duty spouse gives me a unique lens through which I view the mission,” she said.
Her firsthand understanding of the operational demands placed on warfighters and the sacrifices made by their families fuels her commitment to excellence.
“Supporting warfighters isn’t just professional for me. It’s deeply personal,” she said.
Every task she undertakes is infused with a sense of purpose, knowing her work contributes to the readiness and success of those who serve.
“Military spouses understand the culture and challenges of the military community in a way that strengthens an organization’s ability to truly support warfighters and their families,” she said.
For Alarcon, working at StraCon, a company that recognizes and values the contributions of military families, feels like an extension of her own mission. Every day, she channels her experiences into making a meaningful impact, ensuring those on the front lines have the resources and support they need to succeed.
“Even though I’m no longer in uniform, I still feel a profound responsibility to serve,” she said.
She also hopes to shine a light on the often-unsung role of military spouses.
“We’re the steady foundation behind the force,” she said. “We provide stability, encouragement and resilience during deployments, training cycles and the many challenges that come with military life.”
While their contributions may happen behind the scenes, she knows they are vital to the success of the mission.
