StraCon employees receive scholarship awards at I/ITSEC

The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), now renamed the RADM Fred Lewis Postgraduate Scholarships, has been awarded to two of our own extraordinary StraCon employees!
StraCon’s Shannon Bailey, Research Psychologist, and Emily Gonzalez-Holland, Assistant Research Psychologist at NAWCTSD Orlando, FL were presented with their scholarship awards 1 Dec 2016 at the I/ITSEC awards ceremony and recognized and had the opportunity to and meet leading figures from Government, Industry and Academia associated with this community.
Shannon received the Doctoral level scholarship in the amount of $10,000 and Emily received Masters level in the amount $5,000! The scholarships are offered to stimulate student interest and university participation in preparing individuals for leadership in the Modeling & Simulation, Training and Education communities. The RADM Lewis Scholarships encourage expansion of the I/ITSEC community and promote innovation through direct investment in the community’s future leaders.
Shannon and Emily helped co-author Designing Effective Feedback in Adaptive Training Systems. They conducted experiments testing 143 participants for feedback with different scenarios in the Periscope Operator Adaptive Trainer, in which they viewed ships via a simulated periscope, estimated the ships’ angle relative to their line of sight, and received feedback about their performance based on their experimental condition. Their paper was awarded as I/ITSEC “Best Paper” selected in – Human Performance Analysis and Engineering.
